Manglona scores delay in Rota hemodialysis center

Senate President Paul Manglona (Ind-Rota) renewed yesterday his longstanding request to start the operation of the $1.5 million Rota hemodialysis center, whose opening was delayed since March 2009.
Manglona first brought up the matter with former Health secretary Joseph Kevin Villagomez but, with the transition to the Commonwealth Healthcare Corp., Manglona is addressing his concern with CHC chief executive officer Juan N. Babauta. Babauta couldn’t be reached for comment last night.
“It is important that we do not further delay this long-overdue project as the government has spent almost $1.5 million in construction to have its own dialysis center for persons needing dialysis three times a week,” Manglona told Babauta in a one-page letter.
The Senate president asked Babauta for updated information regarding the Rota dialysis center, and asked that a nephrologists visit the Rota facility for assessment and recommendations on the needed professional staff and personnel to run it.
Manglona said there are several Rota patients undergoing hemodialysis on Saipan.
“These patients also left behind their families on Rota for several years now, while carrying a financial burden. I am certain that you empathize with these patients and their families as I am also confident that your office with a group of professionals will begin planning the future of the center in order to move forward with this project,” he said.
The Senate president also attached in his letter to Babauta previous letters he sent to Villagomez, dated Dec. 7, 2010 and May 25, 2011.
