Newlyweds Raymond Palo Mendoza and Juliana Dela Rosa Mendoza tied the knot in a very special ceremony on Dec. 17, 2011, at the San Antonio Church officiated by Fr. Ike Ayuyu. The reception immediately followed at the Seaside Hall of the Saipan Grand Hotel.

What made the occasion even more memorable was the personal touch of the bride, who designed the Winter Wonderland-themed wedding all by herself. As Jualiana describes it:

“My ‘do it yourself’ wedding projects consisted of doing everything handmade and planning my very own wedding without a wedding planner. Because winter in the mainland consists of dried twigs and branches with no flowers, I had an idea to bring winter into my own wedding. I went out and picked dried twigs and branches off the side of the roads around Saipan and spray painted them white. This was cheap and did not cost me anything for the branches/twigs other than the paint.

“My wedding bouquet was not a traditional or typical flower bouquet; instead, I collected brooches, pins, rings, earrings, clips, etc. and made my very own brooch bouquet. The bridesmaids’ bouquets were made from pearls. Both brooch and pearl bouquets were stringed with wires and gathered together to make a bouquet.

“All my wedding decors were bought on sale. All twig and branch centerpieces or decorations, giveaways, the cake topper “M” monogram and the cupcake stands were handmade by me. My overall expenditures for my wedding was only $7,000.

“By the way, I sang Hawaiian Wedding Song by Elvis Presley as I walked down the aisle with my parents. It was a surprise and it shocked everyone in the ceremony!”
