Lopsided triumphs in youth futsal league
Blowout was the theme of last Tuesday’s games in the 2011 Saipan Soccer School Youth Futsal League at the TSL Sports Complex.
In the first match for the girls U17 division, Astig Futsal crushed the Ayuyus, 10-1, while for the boys U18 game, IT&E clobbered the Thundercats, 9-0.
Jeraldine Castillo led Astig Futsal’s victory after making a hat trick. Kyla Ito contributed two goals, while Melody Johnson, Maica Aniana, Marielle Gariguez, Mikky Vargas, and Dianne Pablo chipped in one apiece. Amy Taylor was the lone Ayuyus striker to make it to the scoreboard.
Taylor had her only goal in the game in the first half and it was nowhere near the six-goal output of Astig Futsal in the opening 20 minutes of the match. Castillo logged twin goals in the first half, while Johnson, Aniana, Ito, and Gariguez posted one apiece. Astig Futsal added four more goals in the second half to complete its domination of the Ayuyus and retain a perfect record (3-0).
In the other game of the night, IT&E capitalized on a depleted Thundercats crew in the first 10 minutes of the game to take a 3-0 lead en route to an easy victory.
The Thundercats played with only four players at the start of the match before Brian Lee came in midway in the first frame. By the time Lee arrived and played defense for the Thundercats, IT&E had already drawn goals from Yishan Wang, Dae Min Jeon, and Jehn Joyner. Greg Kim and Joon Lee later added one goal apiece to give IT&E a good lead at the break, 5-0.
Lee, Jeon, and Joyner also scored in the second half, while Evert Van Der Maas lit up the scoreboard, too, in the final 20 minutes of play for IT&E’s second win and first against the Thundercats. IT&E and the Thundercats’ first round encounter resulted in a 2-2 draw.
Meanwhile, after losing its first two games, We-D-Fly broke into the win column in the boys U15 division, following a 6-0 victory over Shirley’s Boys last Thursday.
Brian Lee drained four goals for We-D-Fly, while Bada Lee and John Masga recorded one each.
In another game (girls U17) played last Thursday, Go Green Team defeated the Ayuyus, 3-1.
Chevy Kate Alipio carded three goals for Go Green Team, while Maria Castro scored the team’s other goal. All four goals of Go Green Team came in the first half. The Ayuyus avoided a shutout loss when Jennifer Dela Cruz found the back of the net in the second half.
The girls U17 and boys U15 and U18 division contests will be played for two rounds with the teams with the most victories after the double-round robin league winning their respective age groups.
