Inter Godfather’s rules FA Cup
Inter Godfather’s outgunned Wild Bill’s, 4-1, to bag the championship in the 2011 NMIFA Men’s FA Cup last Sunday at the Oleai Sports Complex Field.
Masatoshi Otsuka scored twin goals for Inter Godfather’s, while Peter Loken and Matthew Holley contributed one each to give the team a perfect record this season and win the battle of undefeated teams. Wild Bill’s and Inter Godfather’s both ruled their respective divisions in the fall league elimination game and then went undefeated in two games in the playoffs to set up their championship duel.
Then Wild Bill’s winning run ended last Sunday, as it drew only one goal from Jeeraphong Thoensaket, who was later ejected from the match after getting a red card in the second half.
Thoensaket got things going early for Wild Bill’s when he scored the first goal in the highly physical match in the 8th minute. Wild Bill’s hung on to the driver’s seat for 10 minutes before Otsuka hit the equalizer and the first half went on to end in a deadlock.
With the bragging rights and championship on the line, both teams continued to play tough defense and shut each other out in the first few minutes of the second half. Then in the 51st minute, Loken scored to break the tie.
Down by only one with still a lot of time left, Wild Bill’s comeback bid suffered a big blow when Thoensaket was thrown out of the game for getting a red card in the 60th minute. The violation was committed when Thoensaket went for a high kick against an Inter Godfather’s Sanjay Dangol, who was going for a header. Thoensaket went on to hit the face of the Inter Godfather’s striker.
Seven minutes after Wild Bill’s biggest offensive threat left the game, Otsuka logged his second goal, recovering the ball off Chris Nelson’s miss header. Then two minutes before the finals ended, Holley broke into the scoreboard to complete Inter Godfather’s flawless season and hand Wild Bill’s its lone loss.
Joining Holley, Otsuka, and Loken on the champion squad are goalie Evan Hunsberger, Shunji Nagayasu, Peter Houk, Arkie Reusora, Bruce Berline, David, Jose, and Juan Duenas, Dale Roberts, Suguru Takahashi, Jacon Van Dam, and Chris Nelson.
Inter Godfather’s received a championship trophy at the end of the title match with NMIFA general secretary Ed Salas presenting the award in a brief ceremony.
Meanwhile, MP United A won the consolation game against Paire FC, 4-3.
Jio Sung and Dae Min Jeon converted two goals each for MP United A, which scored all its goal in the second half to recover from a 0-1 deficit in the first half.
William Dun nailed one of the three goals for Paire FC, lighting up the scoreboard in the 28th minute for their 1-0 lead. Risty Vergara made it a 2-0 advantage when he found the back of the net in the 71st minute.
Seven minutes later, Jeon put MP United A in the scoreboard, while Sung recorded his first goal to force a tie. Sung hit another goal to give MP United A the upper hand, but Zhi Peng Lin quickly answered for another stalemate. Three minutes after the deadlock, Jeon scored the winning goal.
