This is an open letter to Ben Fitial and his group who oppose H.R. 1466. Has anyone on Capital Hill who is against H.R. 1466 sat down and talked with the people, their constituents—U.S. citizens—who will be negatively affected by their desire to kill this bill? I believe a short five-minute conversation with these folks would open their eyes and hearts to the fact that they will destroy families and that they need to back off on their opposition to H. R.1466.

To quote Elaine Whitmore, if Mr. Fitial had been so adamantly opposed to an economy based on foreign labor, why did he, as a VP for a large garment company, and his colleagues hop in bed with Mr. DeLay and Mr. Abramoff to lobby for maintaining the status quo? Her comment was right on point. It’s a point I have been hammering away at in all my letters to the editor. I wonder how Fitial would feel toward H.R. 1466 if his wife did not have a green card or U.S. citizenship. Would he be in favor of her having to return to her country of origin?

Ms. Whitmore forgot to mention that during the time Uncle Ben was working for the garment industry, he was also firmly in bed with garment owners. This attitude then gave Ben and Froilan the confidence to basically screw government policy or ignore advice from the feds and bring in thousands more garment factory workers. The increase in foreign labor was all about more money for garment owners. Seeing that Abramoff has admitted in his book that he was the king of bribes and kickbacks, it makes you wonder how much of that $5 million the CNMI paid to Abramoff to hold off the fed takeover made its way back to the pockets of certain CNMI politicians.

It has been painfully apparent for a very long time that Fitial and his gang are not to be trusted on anything. This latest series of Fitial dramas reinforces that. If Fitial told me it was raining, I would open a window to verify. That is how bad his reputation is at this point. Fitial and his followers continue to make immigrants the enemy and I fail to see his logic in regards to how they will have such a bad effect on the CNMI. In making them the enemy, he is drawing attention away from the fact that he and his ilk are responsible for the CNMI’s woes.

Immigrants have made the CNMI what it is today; same goes for the entire United States of America. We are nation of immigrants. Jaime was on the fence regarding my previous letters to the editor for my usage of Uncle in regards to Fitial. If I had called him an Uncle Tom, now that could be construed to be racist. But then again, Fitial is acting like a good ol’ boy Uncle Tom in his attitude toward immigrants in the CNMI. It’s OK that they are here to clean his house, change his baby’s diapers, maintain his lawn, serve his food in a restaurant, and massage his back at 2am, but God forbid they should actually be treated as equals or with any type of dignity. Fitial is out of touch with the common people of the CNMI. He is isolated from the community.

Speaking of isolation, what is the deal with Fitial’s need for bodyguards? Is he in fear for his life? Maybe he is, in his mind anyway. Maybe he feels that way for being such a tool for private interests and screwing the people of the CNMI. I know there are governors in the states who don’t have bodyguards. Things that make you go hmmm…
