DPS sets sobriety checkpoints this week

The Department of Public Safety’s Police Division and Traffic Investigation Unit will be conducting DUI/sobriety checkpoints this week.

On Wednesday, Dec. 7, the first setup will be from 7pm to 8:15pm, along Chalan Monsignor Guerrero in Chalan Kiya, in front of the CUC Waterloo. The second setup will be from 10:30pm to 11:45pm, along Beach Road Chalan Lau Lau, adjacent of Dr. Benusto Kaipat’s residence.

On Thursday, Dec. 8, the first setup will be from 6:30pm to 7:45pm, along Beach Road Susupe in front of the Minatchom Atdao. The second setup is from 10:30pm to 11:45pm, along Beach Road Garapan in front of Bank Pacific.

On Friday, Dec. 9, the first setup will be from 7:30pm to 8:45pm, along Beach Road, Chalan Piao, in front of Hopwood Jr. High School. The second setup will be from 10;30pm to 11:45pm, along Chalan Pale Arnold, Chalan Lau Lau, in front of the IT&E building.

Each checkpoint will last at least 75 minutes (1 hour and 15 minutes).

In addition, traffic investigators and highway patrol officers will be conducting highway criminal interdictions, saturation patrols, aggressive driver interdictions, and laser (speed detection) enforcement.

This activity is part of the department’s effort to deter, detect, and apprehend impaired drivers and to ensure that all vehicle occupants are protected.
