Gov. Benigno R. Fitial left yesterday morning for Hong Kong on personal leave, while three senators—Senate President Paul Manglona (Ind-Rota), Sen. Ralph Torres (R-Saipan) and Sen. Juan Ayuyu (Ind-Rota)—are in China on official business.

The Senate postponed today’s session to Dec. 15 because of conflict with the China trip, which is at the invitation of a Chinese group of investors interested in renewable energy projects in the CNMI.

Acting Senate president Jude Hofschneider (R-Tinian) said he could only confirm that the three senators are in China and would be back this weekend.

Acting governor Eloy S. Inos and press secretary Angel Demapan separately confirmed yesterday the governor’s off-island trip. Fitial is primarily attending the wedding of a godson.

Demapan said the governor left with first lady Josie Fitial, and they are expected back on Dec. 8.

The press secretary said he has yet to confirm whether Fitial will stop by the Philippines on his way back to Saipan for a medical checkup.
