Ed Sablan is SGA’s final ace of the year
Ed Sablan took the last slot for the Saipan Golfers Association’s Ace of Aces Tournament after toping the December tourney held last Nov. 13 at the Laolao Bay Golf Resort west course.
Sablan actually fired a net score of 74, which was good for fourth for the day and tied with Joe Deleon Guerrero. However, since the Top 3 finishers—SGA president Marianas Fajardo (net 70), John Cruz (net 71), and Tony Deleon Guerrero (net 73)—already won earlier in the year, Sablan took the plum after edging Joe Deleon Guerrero in a scorecard tiebreak.
Despite losing the December ace by the slimmest of margins, Joe Deleon Guerrero still wound up a winner by securing two greenies in holes No. 13 and 17.
Sablan now joins the other 11 monthly winners and early qualifiers for SGA’s season-ending tournament—Tony Deleon Guerrero (January), John Cruz (February), Nick Sablan (March), Edward Manibusan (April), Ray San Nicolas (May), Joe Sablan (June), Danny Quitugua (July), Steve Balakrishna (August), Frances Sablan (September), Das Krishnan (October), and Mariano Fajardo (November).
A total of 25 SGA members took part in the December Ace. The other participants, with their net scores in parenthesis, were Jess Castro (75), Steve Balakrishna (76), Jung Eun Teack (76), Steve Jang (76), Matt Chargualaf (76), and Jim Mitchell (76), Edward Manibusan (77), Manny Blas (77), Vicente Aldan (77), Frances Sablan (77), Joe Demapan (78), Frank Castro (78), Ray San Nicolas (80), Danny Quitugua (81), Martin Sablan (81), Bob Magofna (82), Larry Deleon Guerrero (84), Joe Sablan (88), Norbert Sablan (89), and Das Krishnan (93).
Castro won the longest drive in hole No. 2, while Larry Deleon Guerrero took the prize in hole No. 12. Manibusan, meanwhile, won the greenies in holes No. 3 and 7. (Saipan Tribune)
