Besides the running events, participants in the whole-day affair also joined the egg and water balloon toss competitions. The people of Chuuk are naturally taken to track and field events. A number of Chuukese athletes have represented the CNMI in running events over the years and these include Ketson “Jack” Karibiel, Tony Ichuo, and Theodore Naka,
The weekend event aimed to promote a healthy lifestyle in a family oriented environment in an effort to bring all Saipan residents from the different regions of Chuuk closer together.
“This event is a great way to bring Chuukese people closer together and it helps keep our kids out of trouble. We held a feast and showcased various running events and side games throughout the event and just had a lot of fun,” said CCA vice president Inos Kenio.
The CCA is planning another island-wide event in February 2012. Organizers are hoping to use the Oleai Sports Complex as venue as an even greater turnout is expected next year.
