It’s Christmastime
On July 13, 2011, in a letter titled “I’ll believe it when I see it.” I eloquently stated that I wouldn’t believe my tax return would be here before Christmas. This was in response to the Lt. Governor’s statement that all checks would be issued prior to December so everyone would have a great Christmas. Well, lo and behold, it isn’t. I don’t want to be the one that said, “I told you so,” but I told you so. I know it’s four weeks before Christmas, but I have been in contact with Finance and the Governor’s Office on a regular basis in the past two weeks. I have discovered it won’t be at least three to four more weeks before I get my check and that is if I’m lucky. It may take another year and a half to get my check again. Oh no, I’m not having my sweet little angel-faced darling Alexis’s Christmas ruined again. Finance told me that they haven’t even finished March’s filings yet and it’s almost Dec. 1. I have pleaded, begged, wrote letters, described my situation, and nothing. So here is my Christmas wish to everyone:
It’s Christmas time,There’s a need to be afraid.
At Christmas time,
We were promised our tax rebate.
But for so many there will be no joy,
With no tax rebates
Before Christmastime.
But say a prayer,
Pray for the other ones.
At Christmastime,
It’s hard when there is none.
There’s a world outside your window,
And it’s a world of dread and fear,
as with so many needing to leave here.
The only water flowing this year,
Will be the bitter sting of tears.
And the Christmas bells that ring here,
Will be the clanging chimes of doom.
Well tonight thank God,
it’s them instead of you.
And there won’t be snow in our house,
This Christmastime.
The greatest gift Alexis will get this year will be a bowl of rice. Why do I have to tell her this every night? No gifts from no rebates two years in a row? I don’t want to say it, but I told you so. Does the government care it’s Christmastime at all? Here’s to the Gov.:
Spare a thought this yuletide for the deprived
If the table was turned would you survive?
Here’s to them, the ones being oppressed
You don’t have to feel sorrow just selflessness
Give a little help to the helpless
Do they care it’s Christmastime at all? Keith Brooks Dandan, Saipan
