Thank you

The day is drawing near and I am finding my heart weighing heavier by the day. I am very aware that many of my dear friends who have become like members of my own family will be leaving Saipan for good. I will be missing your warm smiles and cheerful greetings. I will be eternally grateful to the many of you who would go out of your way to assist me in whatever it was that I needed in your place of employment.

I know there are many times you are saddened by news of home, whether it be an illness in the family or the nervous anticipation of a major storm headed toward your hometowns, yet you still perform your duties appearing unaffected. I, for one, cannot even begin to imagine the heartaches and the homesickness you feel everyday knowing you had to leave very young children, even infants. Leaving your children to help raise other peoples’ children was undoubtedly torturous but you made the best of your situations and loved our children as if your very own. Our mother also was cared for by countless others who were not her children, not of these islands, yet loved her with an abundance of patience and compassion. We have been indeed blessed.

I am so very sorry to see you leave, but know that my family and I are extremely appreciative in this season of thanksgiving for all your labor and sacrifices. I wish with all sincerity that I could do more to make this transition easier for all. I can only offer my prayers, though, that you are blessed abundantly in the days ahead and that all the uncertainties that trouble you now are allayed soon.

Dankulu na si yu’us ma’ase to my extended family. Adios and may God be with you all.
