Koblerville edges Chalan Kanoa in MDX caging
Koblerville/GEC escaped with a 58-57 win over Chalan Kanoa/Fong’s Bakery during their game in the 2011 MDX Amateur Radio Club Inter-Village Friendship League last Sunday at the Civic Center Basketball Court in Susupe.
Kevin De Leon split his charities in the last three seconds of the match and Chalan Kanoa failed to pull up for a decent shot in the end to absorb its first loss in three matches. Koblerville now ties Chalan Kanoa and San Antonio/Gene’s Barber in second place in the team standings in Bracket A, half a game behind group leader Garapan/Jhems (3-1).
Deleon finished with a team-high 12 markers, while Melvin Cadiang added 10, scoring Koblerville’s first five points to give the team a 16-5 advantage.
In the second period, it was Koblerville’s turn to slow down, as it was held to seven points against the 16 of Chalan Kanoa, which moved within two at the break, 21-23.
It was another close contest in the third period with Koblerville still having a slight ledge, 42-38, as Manuel Ajoste made six of his eight points in that canto.
Jun Tabora kept Chalan Kanoa afloat in the final canto, but Koblerville got the break when Deleon was fouled on his way to the basket and went 1-for-2 to pull off the victory.
Tabora led all scorers with his 22 markers.
Garapan 86, San Antonio 86Garapan/Jhems and San Antonio/Gene’s Barber were in a deadlock after regulation, but the former was awarded the win due to technicalities.
San Antonio lost the match, as it failed to field one of its players in regulation. MDX caging rules mandate teams to give playing time to all members present during the game.
Matt Duenas and JR Ngeskebei teamed up in Garapan’s victory with their 25 and 23 points, respectively, while Jun Alipio also finished in double digits with 10.
Jack Aranda paced San Antonio with his 26 points, but these were not enough to give his team its third win in as many games. San Antonio lost the match despite taking a 68-61 lead when Garapan outscored the former in the final canto, 25-18.
As Lito 75, Chalan Kiya 72Chris Lansang scored 22 points, including As Lito Chow Queen’s last four markers to beat Chalan Kiya/Loving Hands.
Three other As Lito players tallied double digits in scoring for the team’s first win. Shane Metran added 17, Zack Babauta had 11, and Jojo Sevilla posted 11 in their debut win. Chalan Kiya fell to a 2-1 card.
