A plea for help
Dear USCIS and Judge Ramona Manglona: First, I would like to greet you a happy day and hope that God will always be with you and guide you. For the past 24 years that I’ve stayed here and worked legally, I never committed any crime. I always paid my taxes and respected and abided by the law. I worked here in construction as a carpenter (finishing).
I read the letter of Mr. Vince Cabrera that when we leave, Saipan will be fine. For me, that’s not true because when I came here in October 1987, Saipan was not good and fine, especially Middle Road, which was dusty and like a jungle and not totally developed. What will happen to your island if, after Nov. 27, all contract workers will unite and decide to leave? But it’s impossible, right?
I write this letter to ask a favor and help! If there’s a possibility, can you extend the Nov. 27 deadline? Also our umbrella permits? This is for the sake of many people, especially those who have U.S. citizen children who, until now, could not find an employer.
I got married here in 1993 and God gifted us two children: a 17-year-old in 12th grade and an 8-year-old in 3rd grade. Every parent wants their children to finish their education. My daughter is very smart and talented. She was awarded valedictorian in Garapan Elementary School in 2006 and Hopwood Jr. High School in 2008, and she will represent Saipan in Texas this year (NFL). My children are worried if we will leave them, asking us what will happen to their studies if we will leave. I just tell them, “My children, continue to pray and God will always listen.”
Lastly, I would also like to take this opportunity to tell my last employer, if you read this letter, please give me my back wages ($1,000). Also to Tax & Rev, Finance, and Treasury, please mail our stimulus checks (2009-2010). You told us to check our box after two weeks, but it’s already two years now. I will use this money to buy our plane tickets if I cannot find an employer by Nov. 27. And to those employers who are willing to help, please help those who are needed here, especially skilled workers. God bless Saipan!
