Registration for the 2011-2012 Real World Design Challenge is now open!

This is an annual competition that gives high school students, grades 9-12, the opportunity to work on real world engineering challenges in a team environment.

Teams of three to seven high school students will be asked to address a challenge that confronts the nation’s leading industries. Students will use professional engineering software to develop their solutions and will also generate presentations that convincingly demonstrate the value of their solutions.

Every teacher or team that participates in the RWDC gets $1 million in professional engineering software along with training, curriculum materials, and access to mentors.

Students first compete in a state level Governors Cup. The team with the best design in each state gets an all-expenses-paid trip to Washington, D.C. to compete in the national finals.

CNMI private and public school teachers/coaches/school teams are scheduled to meet today, Nov. 10, 2011, to discuss the CNMI’s participation in this competition. The meeting is from 3pm to 4:30pm, at the Office of Instructional Services, second floor of the CNMI PSS Central Office (Bwoghos Road, Chalan Kanoa).

Sign up today at www.realworlddesignchallenge.org. For more information, contact RWDC state level coordinator Jeaniffer Cubangbang at 237-3014 or jeaniffer.cubangbang@cnmipss.org.
