GCA completes undefeated run in boys volleyball

The Grace Christian Academy Eagles capped a perfect 12-0 season as the Marianas Interscholastic Sports Organization’s boys volleyball regular season came to a close Monday at the the Marians High School Gymnasium.

GCA swept the Saipan Southern High School Manta Rays in all three sets, 25-16, 25-16, and 15-12.

GCA received a bye in the double-elimination postseason tournament with the win, while SSHS finished the year in sixth place with a 3-9 win-loss record.

The tournament’s playoffs is set to run from Nov. 16 to 17. Wednesday’s games will be held at the MHS gym and start at 3pm, while Thursday’s matches tip off at 4pm at the Northern Marianas College Gymnasium.

Meanwhile, the Kagman High School Ayuyus finished the regular season on a high note, downing the MHS QT’s in a tiebreaker match for third place in the standings.

In the tiebreaker, KHS took the opening set, 25-20, but the QT’s regrouped and won the second set, 25-19, to force a deciding final set.

In the end, KHS buckled down to work in the clutch to get the nod, 15-11, and along with it the second seed in the playoffs.

KHS finished with a 7-5 slate, while the QT‘s (6-6) settled for a fourth place seat in the tourney.

Other competing teams include second-ranked Saipan International School Geckos (10-2), fifth-ranked MHS Awesome Fins (4-8), and seventh-place MHS KFC Fins (0-12).
