Women’s futsal fall league draws 12 teams
The 2011 NMIFA Women’s Futsal Fall League kicked off last week with 12 teams joining the competition at the Saipan Soccer School pitch.
The 12 participating teams are divided into two groups with Independents FC, MP United, Shirley’s FC, and Paire FC comprising the competitive field and Paire FC, Independents FC, Marianas High School, Matansa, Tan Holdings, Shirley’s, and MP United 1 and 2 playing in the non-competitive division.
Games are played every Monday, Wednesday, and Friday with teams in the competitive division playing at 6:30pm and the non-competitive squads seeing action at 5:30pm and 7:30pm matches.
Results in last week’s competitive division had Paire winning over Independents, 3-1. Megan Herber canned twin goals for Paire, which was credited with another goal off the miscue of Independents goalie Cathy Perry. Pratoon Staffer scored the two goals for Independents.
Independents also played last Monday and bowed to Shirlety’s FC. Lalaine Pagarao made the lone goal in the game.
For the non-competitive games results, sister teams MP United 1 and 2 collided last Monday with the former prevailing, 4-1, while Paire edged MHS, 1-0.
Akane Imaya, Mel Demapan, Julien Estopado, and Lydia Tan converted one goal apiece for MP United 1, while Laarni Zapanta scored the only goal for MP United 2.
In the Paire-MHS tiff, Temary Gramlich made it to the scoreboard to give Paire the win. The victory was Paire’s second, as it also notched one victory in the opening week of the fall league. In the opener on Oct. 31, Paire downed Independents, 1-0, with Gramlich also scoring the only goal for the winning squad. In their second game on Nov. 3, it was Maria Ornes’ turn to score for Paire, but they still lost to Tan Holdings FC, 1-2.
Tan Holdings, which drew goals from Lina Manalili and Krizelle Alforeza during their game against Paire, had a rousing debut in the fall league after shutting out MP United 1, 4-0. Manalili, Alforeza, Alodia Lumasag, and Clarisse Cayabyab scored one goal each for Tan Holdings.
In other results in the non-competitive division last week, Matansa topped Shirley’s, 3-1, while MHS and MP United 2 drew their match, 2-2. Levita Cho, Luz Phan, and Becky Robles logged one goal each for Matansa, while Lily Williams was the only player to score for Shirley’s. In the MHS-MP United 2 tussle, Zapanta recorded twin goals, while Jaime Borja also made a pair to force a draw.
