MP United Silver sweeps fall season
One perfect season. One perfect gift.
MP United Silver shut out Tan Holdings FC, 6-0, to sweep the regular season of the boys U15 division of the 2011 NMIFA Youth Football Fall League and hand goalie Gregzon Fontanilla a fitting gift on his birthday last Saturday.
With the victory at the Hopwood Junior High School Field, MP United Silver kept its undefeated record for four seasons that encompassed two years. In six games this season, MP United Silver scored 60 goals and gave up only two, surpassing its record of 48 goals for and 4 goals against in the spring season.
“The unbeaten record was a product of the players’ hard work. They gave their best in every game, regardless which team they were facing. Most of our players are members of the CNM U15 National Team, but even though they are part of the elite squad, they are always told not to be too complacent,” coach Norman del Rosario said.
“Every season, other teams improved so we have to keep playing our A game. Against Tan Holdings, we want to give Gregzon a birthday gift. He also wanted to give himself a gift and that was not to allow Tan Holdings to score,” Del Rosario added.
Gregzon made several saves, most of them came in the second half when Tan Holdings became more aggressive, hoping to make it to the scoreboard after falling behind at halftime, 0-4.
Dakota Hall notched two of those four goals in the first half for MP United Silver. He drilled his first goal in the 25th minute and seven minutes later had his second one. Jehn Joyner broke the ice with a goal in the 18th minute and after only one minute, Ryota Ito also scored.
In the second half, Hall completed a hat-trick with his goal in the 73rd minute, while Joyner canned his second goal less than 40 seconds after the former lit up the scoreboard.
Tan Holdings suffered back-to-back losses after bowing to MP United Silver and dropped to a share of third place with Paire despite a 3-0 start.
MP United Blue 9, Shirley’s FC 2 0MP United Blue duplicated the feat of its sister team after shutting out Shirley’s FC 2.
MP United Blue finished the round-robin regular season with a 2-2-2 win-draw-loss record for fifth place in the seven-team field.
Daniel Lim led MP United Blue’s victory, as he scored four goals. David Kim added two goals, while Ryu Tanzawa, Chris Park, and John Choi chipped in one each.
The all-female crew of Shirley’s FC 2 finished the fall season with a dismal 1-6 win-loss record.
Paire 1, Matansa 1The last game in the boys U15 between Paire and Matansa ended in a draw.
Brian Lee scored the lone goal for Paire, finding the back of the net in the 40th minute. Then three minutes into the second half, Matansa’s Jireh Yobech made the equalizer.
With the draw, Matansa wrapped up the regular season with a 3-2-1 card for second place in the team standings, while Paire ended up at third with a 3-1-2 record.
