Council invites CNMI artists to join Christmas art exhibit
The Commonwealth Council for Arts and Culture is calling on all registered artists to take part in the upcoming 2011 Island Artist and Christmas Crafts Exhibit.
The exhibit, which is among the three annual exhibits organized by the arts council, is slated from Nov. 15 to Dec. 15.
The venue, tentatively set at the Hyatt Regency Saipan Lobby Function Room, will be finalized soon, according to Arts in Education and Festival coordinator Parker Y. Yobei.
“We’re calling on all registered artists with CCAC to come in and register for free and turn in their arts and crafts for the monthlong exhibit,” he said.
While the exhibit has a “Christmas twist to it,” artwork that will be displayed at the 2011 Island Artist and Christmas Crafts Exhibit will not be limited to Christmas-themed creations.
“But if they do have Christmas ornaments, decorations, and other stuff crafts, that would be great,” Yobei told Saipan Tribune.
Yobei added that they are working on inviting special guests and artists to grace the exhibit’s opening.
He said they are also inviting artists who have yet to register with the Arts Council to visit their office and register for free. The only requirements for registration, Yobei said, are two pictures of the artist and six pictures of their works.
“We hope that our local artists will take advantage of this exhibit to display and promote their art and hopefully get special orders,” said Yobei.
Yobei also encouraged the community to support the exhibit and experience the talents of these local artists through their artworks.
“When they see the variety of talents that these artists have, the public will be surprised,” added Yobei.
