GCA still undefeated in boys volleyball

Grace Christian Academy outlasted Kagman High School to remain undefeated in the 2011-2012 Marianas Interscholastic Sports Organization Boys Volleyball League.

The GCA Eagles faced the Ayuyus last Friday at the Marianas High School Gymnasium and took the first set, 25-10, to move closer to their ninth win in as many games. In the second set, the Ayuyus recovered with a 25-19 victory to force a deciding third set.

GCA turned it on in the clutch and won the final set, 15-9, for a perfect 9-0 record. Kagman dropped to a 5-4 record and ended its five-game winning streak.

Second-ranked Saipan International School improved to an 8-2 card after routing the MHS Awesome Fins in three sets, 25-20, 25-11,15-2.

The Awesome Fins did not leave empty handed and managed to rally over sister team KFC Fins in their second game. Awesome Fins won the first set, 25-15, but stumbled in the second set, 25-27. The KFC Fins were two points away from notching their first win of the season, but were stuck at 13, as the Awesome Fins pulled of a 15-13 victory in the end.

The Awesome Fins now hold a 3-7 record, while KFC Fins have endured nine consecutive losses since the season opener.

In other results, MHS QT’s bested Saipan Southern High School in the first two sets, 25-16, 25-16, to clinch an automatic victory. MHS QT’s came up short of sweeping the Rays after a 14-16 loss in the final set. MHS QT’s now has a 5-4 card, while Southern fell to a 2-7 record.

Games in the boys volleyball league continue today at 4:30pm with Kagman going up against Southern on the north court and MHS QT’s taking on GCA on the south end. Then at 5:30pm, Southern squares off with Awesome Fins on the north side, while SIS clashes with Kagman on the south court.
