12 teams join Rocball fall season
The 2011 Rocball Fall League opened last week at the Marianas High School Gymnasium with 12 teams competing for the season championship.
The list includes Balls of Fury, Geeks, Aim Low, Roc It, Lay Low, Give-a-Hoot, Just-do-It, Alpha Q, G-Sparks, IDK, Teachers, and Dream Team.
Six games were played in Week 1 with Teachers recording the most impressive debut win after whipping Geeks, 40-7. Also breaking into the win column in their first attempt were Dream Team, Aim Low, G-Sparks, Give-a-Hoot, and Alpha Q. Dream Team edged Balls of Fury, 29-24; Aim Low routed IDK, 39-10; G-Sparks outclassed Roc It, 39-37; Give-a-Hoot downed Just-do-It, 41-32; and Alpha Q topped Lay Low, 36-28.
Saipan Rocball creator James Feger said 52 aces, 27 kees, 10 xunks, one jam, and six goals were made in Week 1. Dream Team’s Daniel Agulto and Roc It’s Ben Olopai nailed four aces each in their season debuts, while Give-a-Hoot’s Damart Teregeyo drilled two xunks. The lone and first jam in the season came from Icemwar Somorang of Lay Low.
Teachers’ John Nekaifes, Aim Low’s Y.J Nakayama, G-Sparks’ Brian Daria and Jim Lacsina, Give-a-Hoot’s Derick Olopai, and Lay Low’s Somorang and T.J. Lisua posted one goal each.
The Rocball league will have a round-robin format for the regular season. Games are played from Monday to Friday. There will be additional morning games at 8am every Tuesday and Thursday, while matches every Monday, Wednesday, and Friday will only be played at 1pm. Playoffs format has yet to be decided.
