Do-nothing DPS

My wife and I can certainly feel the frustration and anguish Olga Vyshikeeva is feeling toward DPS. Ms. Vyshikeeva, a Russian tourist, was a victim of a violent mugging and carjacking on Oct. 11, and apparently the DPS criminal investigation team did not take appropriate action toward solving this horrible crime.

Late July of this year, our apartment was broken into and thousands of dollars worth of personal items were stolen. The two police officers that initially responded were very professional in writing up the crime report, and told us that our case would be forwarded to a DPS detective. Over the past several weeks I have made many calls and visits to DPS to inquire about the progress of our case and each time I was told that a detective would get back to me. I even left them two good leads, but never once did anyone from DPS ever get back to me. My wife and I have come to the conclusion that the DPS Criminal Investigation Bureau has done absolutely nothing in regards to solving our case. It’s almost as if they don’t care.

Crime continues to worsen in the CNMI but I just don’t see any serious and genuine steps being taken in trying to curb it. One genuine step to take is for DPS to get its house in order. If not, be prepared for the Wild, Wild West.
