Crime against tourists continues

Criminals preying on Saipan tourists continue with their brazen acts, this time against a Japanese couple who fell victim to a thief or thieves at Ladder Beach on Tuesday.

Police officer Jason Tarkong confirmed yesterday that a theft incident happened at Ladder Beach but he declined to provide more details.

Sources at the Department of Public Safety disclosed that the Japanese couple were sightseeing when their valuables and other items were stolen from their car.

Sources said there was no damage to the vehicle but could not provide more details of how the theft occurred and what items were stolen.

DPS is expected to release more information to the media about the incident today, Thursday.

Last Oct. 19, a car rented by a Norwegian tourist was burglarized at Ladder Beach.

Saipan Tribune learned that the tourist had left his rented car at the parking lot to descend the stairs at Ladder Beach and go sightseeing. When the tourist went back to the car, he found that some of his valuables had been stolen.

DPS has yet to release information about the case to the media.

A day prior to the Ladder Beach burglary, an unidentified man robbed an elderly Japanese couple who were playing golf at the Marianas Country Club in Marpi.

Last Oct. 10, an unidentified man robbed a 51-year-old local female who was playing golf at Coral Ocean Point with her daughter.

Last Oct. 11, an unidentified man armed with a screwdriver robbed a Russian female tourist and drove off with her rented car at Suicide Cliff in Marpi.
