Student-athletes shine
Student-athletes proved their worth in last weekend’s competitions.
In the 18th SSC All Schools Swimming Championship held at the Kan Pacific Swimming Pool in Marpi, students from Whispering Palms, Saipan Community School, and Grace Christian Academy gave their respective teams honors.
Whispering Palms won the elementary division of the All Schools meet, while SCS and GCA prevailed in the junior high and high school categories, respectively.
For the outstanding individual performances in the same meet, SCS’ Kento Akimaru made two records in the boys 9 to 10 age group, while GCA’s Angel Marie Tan and Garapan Elementary School’s Lukas Kang logged one age group mark each.
In the MISO boys volleyball league, Saipan International School and GCA kept their unbeaten records, while Marianas High School also protected its undefeated mark in the MISO girls varsity caging last week.
In basketball, the Blue Haus caging finally wrapped up with Cell Pro beating MBI in the finals in overtime, 91-88. The championship game was postponed several times due to rains before the match was finally played at the Garapan Basketball Court last week.
Still in basketball, the Shirley’s caging opened its third season at the Gillette Multipurpose Gymnasium with defending champion Pacific Islands Club/NVM, Mobil, and DFS winning their opening games.
Also opening last week was the NMIFA Men’s Fall League at the Oleai Sports Complez. Field. MP United A and B and Wild Bill’s won in the opener
Still in football, MP United 1 and Tan Holdings prevailed in Week 4 of the NMIFA youth league to share the top spot in the boys U15 league.
