Men’s fall league draws 10 teams
The 2011 NMIFA Fall League kicked off last Sunday at the Oleai Sports Complex Field with 10 teams competing for this season’s championship.
Three games were scheduled in the opener, but only two were played with Wild Bill’s and MP United A winning their respective matches. MP United B was also awarded the win via forfeiture over SKY FC in the first tiff of the day.
Wild Bill’s saw action in the last game of the opening day and downed Paire FC, 3-1.
Jeeraphong Thoensaket delivered all three goals for Wild Bill’s, scoring the team’s first goal in the 24th minute. Six minutes later, Paire tied the match off Zhi Peng Lin’s goal.
Thoensaket then started the second half with his second goal only four minutes gone by in the final frame. Thoensaket completed the hat-trick with another goal in the 59th minute.
In the second half, MP United A defeated Tan Holdings FC, 5-2.
The match was in a deadlock at the break before MP United pulled away, drawing one goal each from Dae Won Jeon, Ho Jin Woo, and Moon Bin Hong in the second half. Dae Won’s younger brother, Dae Min, also scored, giving MP United A one goal in the first half. Sung Su Jung made MP United A’s other goal in the first half.
Tan Holdings managed to equalize in the first half after getting a pair of goals from Wo Lee Wai.
The 10 teams competing for the fall championship are divided into two groups. Pool A is composed of MP United A, Paire, Wild Bill’s, Tan Holdings, and Shirley’s FC, while Pool B has Inter Godfather’s, Korean Football Association on Saipan, SKY FC, Matansa FC, and MP United B.
A round-robin format is in effect in each pool and only the Top 4 teams per group will advance to the single-elimination playoffs, which will start on Nov. 20. Elimination round games are set every Sunday and Thursday with three matches scheduled in the weekend. Only one game will be played on Thursdays.
This weekend’s schedule will feature SKY FC going up against Inter Godfathers at 12pm, Paire versus Shirley’s FC at 2pm, and Wild Bill’s over Tan Holdings at 4pm.
