The Department of Public Safety will be conducting sobriety checkpoints today and tomorrow, Oct. 21-22, 2011.
Today, the first setup will be on Chalan Pale Arnold, Puerto Rico by the U.S. Army Reserve Center on the southbound lane from 7:30pm to 8:45pm. The second setup will be on Chalan Monsignor Guerrero, Chalan Kiya on the westbound lane from 10pm to 11:15pm.
Tomorrow, the first setup will be on Beach Road Chalan Laulau adjacent to Dr. Benusto Kaipat’s residence on the southbound lane from 8pm to 9:15pm. The second setup will be on Chalan Pale, Gualo Rai in front of Han’s Tire Shop on the northbound lane from 11pm to 12:45am.[B][I] (DPS)[/I]
Domestic violence on Marianas Agupa[/B]
This Saturday, Oct. 22, 2011, Marianas Agupa will feature detective Pete Aldan, member of the Domestic Violence Group, a coalition between DPS/Fire EMS/SVPE and the community, who will talk about the campaign against domestic violence in the community and observance of Domestic Violence Awareness Month. He will be the guest from 10am to 10:30am.
The Chamorro radio talk show program is from 9am to 11am on Magic 100.3 FM and is hosted by Glenn H. Manglona. Featured reports are as follows: World report and program review by former mayor Joseph S. Inos and a report from Rota by Thomas D. Mendiola, a special segment called Hafa Mohon with Juanita Mendiola and a report from Tinian by former senator David M. Cing. Public hearing tonight on rezoning proposal[/B]
The Saipan and Northern Islands Legislative Delegation Committee on Judicial and Governmental Operations will hold a public hearing today, Oct. 21, from 6pm to 8pm at the Dandan Elementary School cafeteria to obtain comments on House Local Bill 17-26 that seeks to amend the Saipan Zoning Law of 2008. The proposal is to turn the area north and east of the airport runway into an industrialized zone. Written testimonies may be submitted on or before Oct. 21, 2011. Teams sought for One-Pitch Softball Tournament[/B] Team Aschoscho is hosting a One-Pitch Softball Tournament on Oct. 21 – 23, 2011, at the Capital Hill Softball Field. Entrance fee is $100, co-ed format, and maximum of 20 teams. Interested teams must attend the meeting this Wednesday, Oc. 19, 2011, 6pm at the Capital Hill Softball Field. Energy Division to hand out free energy savings kits[/B]
The Department of Public Works’ Energy Division will be giving away Home Energy Savings Kits this month on the following schedule:
* Oct. 26-27, 2011, at the Rota Mayor’s Office, from 9am to 4pm.
* Nov. 7-10, 2011, at the Honorable Pedro P. Tenorio Multi- Purpose Center, from 9am to 4pm.
This promotion is available to all residential paying customers of the Commonwealth Utilities Corp. Those would like to receive the free items must provide a copy of their most current CUC utility bill. [B][I](PR)[/I]
Parole-in-place workshop [/B]
The Marianas Office of Micronesian Legal Services Corp. is hosting the last of its parole-in-place workshops on Sunday, Oct. 23, at American Memorial Park. The workshop will begin at 1pm. It is for parole-in-place for ONLY 1) those foreign nationals who hold a CNMI permanent residency status or 2) those who were born in the CNMI between Jan. 1, 1974, and Jan. 9, 1978.
Although MLSC will conduct the workshop to help people understand the process and put together their applications, no individual legal advice will be given. MLSC will not be accepting cases or filing on behalf of those who attend the workshops. The purpose of the session is simply to help get information out.

MTEC/MY WAVE Tourism Summit on Oct. 27[/B]
The Marianas Tourism Education Council, school MY WAVE clubs, and the Marianas Visitors Authority will hold the MTEC/MY WAVE Tourism Summit on Oct. 27, 2011.
The summit will welcome an estimated 150 students of grade levels 3 to 12 for a full day of activities about tourism and its importance to the Northern Marianas community. Heidi Ballendorf, president of the Guam Tourism Education Council, will be the keynote speaker.
MVA chair Marian Aldan-Pierce will also address the students, and well as Dr. Fred Schumann and Hopwood Jr. High School MY WAVE club president Mikee Campo.
