MBI Rollers rally over Kunoichi
Micronesian Brokers Inc., Rollers Basketball Club. mounted a 47-37 come-from-behind win over Kunoichi during their U15 game in the 2001 Saipan Rotary Club Youth Basketball League last Saturday at the Gillette Multipurpose Gymnasium of the TSL Sports Complex.
Kunoichi sank a couple of three-pointers in the first quarter for a 14-11 lead. Jaime Mendoza paced the squad with seven points in the period.
Kunoichi stretched the lead to eight at halftime, 23-15, as its defense contained MBI to four points in the second quarter.
After struggling in the first half, MBI regrouped in the third and moved within one possession, 26-29, heading into the final stanza.
MBI Rollers carried their momentum in crunch time and limited Kunoichi to just eight points in the final period to walk away with a double-digit victory.
Darag delivered nine points in the clutch and finished with a game-high 17 points. Mendoza and Lily Williams managed 11 points apiece in the loss.
In other results, the RBC Angels outlasted sister team Ol’Aces in the second pairing, while the Party Rockers win via forfeit against NMC Proa.
In the second match, the Angles took control early and jumped in front after the first eight minutes of play, 11-4. The Ol’Aces tried to claw back in the second period, but still fell behind at halftime, 14-20. Warren Ellama mustered six points in the second canto, but the Angles stayed on top behind their pair of treys.
In the third period, Angels only allowed a couple baskets to the Ol’Aces to pull ahead, 26-18, heading into the fourth and final quarter.
The Ol’Aces again tried to recover, but came up a handful short of forcing an overtime.
Angelo Factor and Dicky Feria led the Angels with six points apiece, while Ellama paced the Aces with eight on the short end.
