Saipan Swim Club in cooperation with Mariana Resort & Spa held a free clinic last Thursday with 18 children participating in the one-hour event at the Kan Pacific Swimming Pool.

XTERRA World champion veteran and pro triathlete Mieko Carey conducted the clinic.

“Some kids had never taken swim lessons and some of them can swim well. They were really listening well and tried to do their best during the one-hour lesson,” Carey said.

“I could see everyone improved after the class. They had beautiful stroke. I had a great time win them and I hope I can do the same clinic in the future and help develop young swimmers on Saipan,” she added.

The clinic drew participants as young as 6 and as old as 13 years old.

Meanwhile, SSC will hold another event today when it hosts the 2011 Saipan Swim Club All Schools Swimming Championship at the Marpi pool.

The competition will feature swimmers in the elementary, junior high, and high school divisions with SSC recognizing the Top 3 schools in each category.

Fourteen schools are entered in today’s races. The list includes Whispering Palms School, Saipan International School, Grace Christian Academy, Saipan Community School, Mt. Carmel School, Saipan Southern High School, Marianas High School, Hopwood Junior High School, Chacha Junior High School, Garapan Elementary School, San Vicente Elementary School, Dandan Elementary School, Kagman Elementary School, and Gregorio T. Camacho Elementary School.
