A Crime Stoppers tip led to the arrest of George Jones Castro, a Saipan man accused of the armed robbery of Capitol Poker in Sadog Tasi on Aug. 29, 2011.

In that incident, a man armed with a knife tied up a 56-year-old male cashier and robbed the establishment of between $2,500 and $2,700 in cash.

The police, in an effort to obtain help identifying the suspect, ran the surveillance footage on KSPN. As a result, several tips were called in to the Crime Stoppers tip line and the assailant was identified as George Jones Castro. After again reviewing the footage, and now believing that Castro was indeed the man in the surveillance footage, DPS officers approached Castro’s sister, who confirmed that it was her brother on the tape.

As a result of the Crime Stoppers tip, the 43-year-old Castro was apprehended and he subsequently admitted to the crime. Arrested on Sept. 4, 2011, Castro appeared before Associate Judge Kenneth L. Govendo on Sept. 6, 2011, on charges of robbery, assault with a dangerous weapon, assault and battery, theft, and disturbing the peace. His bail was set at $17,250.
