Rollers Basketball Club’s DYS Rollers mounted a second half comeback to steal the Saipan Rotary Club Youth Basketball U19 consolation match, 50-45, over the Chalan Kanoa Blazers on Wednesday at the Gillette Multipurpose Gymnasium of the TSL Sports Complex in Gualo Rai.

The Blazers got to work early and built a 15-8 lead in the opening eight minutes thanks to eight points by Patrick Torres.

Torres added six more points in the second quarter as both teams went back and fourth. The count shifted to 28-21 in favor of the Blazers at halftime. DYS’ David Diaz and Daryl Suarez pumped in six markers apiece in the first half.

DYS regrouped after the break and Ralph Francisco caught fire with an eight-point tear to start the third quarter. His teammate Erick Dela Rosa came off the bench and delivered six more in support to pull DYS within a basket, 35-37, heading into crunch time.

Coming into the final period, the Blazers front man Brandon Aulerio was held to just seven points in the first three quarters.

While DYS’ defensive strategy held strong late in the match, John Darag sunk a trio of clutch 3-pointers in the last quarter to shoot his team ahead in the final minutes.

Although coming up a bit short in the match, Blazers’ Torres did his best to fill the void and finished with a game-high 18 points, while Francisco led DYS with 15.
