The 2011 Saipan Swim Club All Schools Swimming Championship will take place this Saturday with around 120 swimmers expected to join the weekend tournament at the Kan Pacific Swimming Pool in Marpi.

Participants include those from Whispering Palms, which ruled the elementary division for the past six straight edition of the competition. Other schools fielding swimmers in the event are Saipan International School, Grace Christian Academy, Saipan Community School, Mt Carmel School, Saipan Southern High School, Marianas High School, Hopwood Junior High, Chacha Junior High, Garapan Elementary School, San Vicente, Dandan, Kagman, and Gregorio T. Camacho.

Whispering Palms kept its reign in the elementary division last year after earning 231 points and beating Garapan Elementary School (192 points) and Saipan Community School (78 points). Points were given to schools based on how their swimmers finished the race. Only the Top 2 placers of each school were given points, which were totaled to determine the Top 3 schools. The same point system will be implemented in this weekend’s competition to determine the Top 3 placers in the elementary, junior high school, and high school divisions.

In the junior high, SCS prevailed over Whispering Palms as the former collected 91 points against the latter’s 53. SIS completed the Top 3 with its 51 points.

Last year’s race for the high school championship was a lopsided one with Southern winning with its 91 points. Kagman and SIS were tied for second with 16 points each.

This weekend’s races will begin at 8am, while warm-up will start at 7am.

Meanwhile, SSC is reminding interested individuals about a free clinic this Thursday.

The club will host a one-hour clinic through the help of Mariana Resort & Spa at the Marpi pool and swimmers have only until tomorrow to register. Slots are limited to only 20 individuals. XTERRA pro Mieko Carey will hold the clinic from 5pm to 6pm.
