Toshiba tops Thursday Night League

Toshiba reigned supreme in the 32nd season of the Philippine Bowling Association-Capital Bowling Center Thursday Night League after 17 weeks of competition at CBC in Garapan.

Toshiba finished the season with a 45.5-20.5 record, clinching the championship after a crucial 3.5-.5 win over eventual runner-up Century Insurance in the final week of the league last month. After tying Century Insurance in Game 1 of the important match, 1,007-1,007, Toshiba swept the last two games, 1,025-914 and 982-925, to win the overall title in the nine-team field.

Championship trophies and $500 cash were presented to Toshiba during a brief awards ceremony at CBC last Thursday. The champion team is composed of Ruben Avendano, Orly Ebuen, Ron Cal, Paul Bea, Atoy Banting, Roger Vales, Malou Cabigao, Joe Digno, and Jon Eparwa.

In 17 weeks, Toshiba collected 48,490 pinfalls for an average of 789 per game. It recorded 1,025 and 3,014 in the handicap game and series, respectively, and 909 in the high game and 2,614 in the high series.

Century Insurance, which had Simon Manacop, Raul Dumapit, and Raphael, Ross, Raymond, and Ruselle Zapanta as members, settled for the runner-up cash prize of $300 after completing the season with a 44.5-23.5 record.

The runner-up team took extra cash after ruling the high game scratch with its 1,012 pinfalls against San Jose Court’s 984 and high series scratch of 2,884 versus the 2,633 of San Jose Court. San Jose Court prevailed in the high game with handicap (1,149) and high series with handicap (3,128), beating Ocho (1,097) and Century Insurance (3,091), respectively.

Ocho finished fourth in the field and pocketed $100, while third placer The Company VI went home with $200. The Company VI members were Elena Soll, Andrew Sablan, Yho Villavicencio, Tony and Troy Verdaguer, Joe Sugue, Jess delos Santos, and Taitano.

Cristy Villaflor, Efren Taburnal, Miguel Morta, Boy Sabate, Jerry Pagarao, Dannie Robles, Darwin Gonzales, and Gina Sablan played for Ocho.

Other teams that joined the Thursday Night League were Dial Recharge (32-36), San Jose Court (31.5-36.5), Philippine Consulate (30-38), JT’s Team (13-55), and I-Connect (2-50).
