Ol’Aces rout Blazers, 66-52, in U19 caging
Defending champion Ol’Aces ended its regular season on a high note, following a 66-52 romp of Chalan Kanoa Blazers as the regular season of the 2011 Saipan Rotary Club Youth Basketball U19 wrapped up Monday night at the TSL Sports Complex in Gualo Rai.
Ol’Aces hopes to take the momentum with them into tomorrow’s playoff match against the Sonics at 4:45pm in Gualo Rai. These two squads battled it out in last year’s championship match. The pair also squared off in the season opener with Ol’Aces prevailing, 52-44.
In addition, Rollers 2 takes on Ray Basa’s Kagman Rollers in the second playoff feature scheduled for 6pm.
Ol’Aces’ Sahj Hossain tallied nine markers in the opening eight minutes to give his team an early five-point lead, 12-7.
Ol’Aces then shared the ball very well in the second quarter as the team built a 26-18 margin at the midway point of the game..
Blazers’ Patrick Torres delivered nine points in the first half to help keep his crew in contention.
Hossain returned after the break and connected on a trio of 3-pointers for 15 points in the third quarter that helped his team pull away, 45-34, heading into the final canto.
Blazers’ Torres managed nine more points in the period, but his team struggled to find an answer for Hossain who was simply on fire and playing on a high level.
With a daunting lead in hand, Ol’Aces put went to cruise control in the final period.
As for the Blazers, their front man Brandon Aulerio was on the sidelines with a shoulder injury and the Blazers seemed out of sync throughout the match.
Torres did his best to fill the void, but the group as a whole was not on the same page and missed too many easy baskets.
Hossain finished with a game-high 32 points, while Torres turned in 23 on the short end.
