Blowout wins in Rotary U15 caging
Three teams eased past their respective foes in the U15 division of the 2011 Saipan Rotary Club Youth Basteball League last Saturday at the TSL Sports Complex.
In the first match, Proa showed no mercy against the RBC Angels and cruised to a 45-31 victory.
Proa rumbled to an early 12-0 lead in the opening period with its six players making it to the scoreboard. Proa kept its foot on the gas pedal and amassed a daunting 30-2 advantage at halftime.
Proa then eased up after the break and Angels’ Christian Morales buried a trio of three-pointers and scored 11 points in the third quarter. However Proa remained comfortably in control, 35-17, heading into the final stanza.
The game was out of reach by the start of the final period. Proa’s Shane Deleon Guerrero and Kobe Mendoza finished with eight points apiece, while Angels’ Morales turned in a game-high 13 on the short end.
[B]Kunoichi 41, Ol’Aces 22[/B]In the second pairing, Jaime Mendoza scored six points in the first quarter to lift Kunoichi to a slim 8-6 lead.
Kunoichi’s then knocked down a pair of trey to go with the six points of Lalaine Pagarao for a 20-10 halftime advantage.
Pagarao added six more points in the third quarter to keep the double-digit lead 26-16, with eight minutes left in the match. Kunoichi’s shooters caught fire in the fourth quarter and ran away with it in the end.
Mendoza led Kunoichi with 14 points, while John Tam and Kioni Dela Cruz top-scored for the Ol’Aces with six points apiece.
[B]670 Rollers 57, Party Rockers 28[/B]In the last game, the Rollers went right at the Party Rockers and took a 16-9 lead in the opening eight minutes. Prince Factor headed the surge with eight points.
The Rollers did not let up in the second canto and trudged ahead at halftime, 26-15. Five players contributed on offense for Rollers, while on defense they contained Party Rockers to three baskets
Party Rockers’ Rachel Abrams managed 10 markers in the first half, but hardly received any support from her teammates. Party Rockers’ offense stalled again after the pause, while the Rollers kept hitting their mark and led, 43-22, heading into the final period.
The party was over by the start of the fourth quarter, as Party Rockers continued to struggle on offense.
Factor finished with a team-high 11 points, while Party Rockers’ Abramas led all scorers with 12.
