Sonics keep winning streak in Rotary U19 caging
The Sonics preserved their winning run in the U19 division of the 2011 Saipan Rotary Club Youth Basketball League after beating Hi-Five, 47-36, during their game last Friday at the TSL Sports Complex.
After enduring a tough loss in the season opener, the Sonics won their last six games, while Hi-Five finished the regular season with a 3-4 record.
Hi-Five’s Clarence Sablan scored five points in the opening period, but the Sonics still managed an 8-7 lead by spreading the ball well in their half court offense.
Then the Sonics ran the court in the second quarter and gashed a 27-20 margin at the half. The Sonics continued their balance scoring in the second canto with seven players contributing on offense.
In the second half, the Sonics kept the upper hand as they made some defensive adjustments and contained Hi-Five to just eight points in the third period. By the end of the third period, the Sonics stretched their lead to nine, 37-28.
In the fourth quarter, the Sonics slowed down the pace and milked the clock to keep their winning streak.
Melvin Cadiang top-scored for the Sonics with nine points, while Nikko Salem turned in a game-high 13 in the loss.
Meanwhile, according to the U19 league schedule, the regular season wraps up today with the Ol’Aces taking on the CK Blazers at 5pm.
