HHS awards $70,000 to Sanctuary, Inc.

WASHINGTON, D.C.—Guam Delegate Madeleine Z. Bordallo announced Friday that the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services has awarded $70,000 in federal financial assistance to Sanctuary Inc. This basic center grant will go toward improving services offered at Sanctuary’s COED Emergency Shelter.

The COED Emergency Shelter was first established in 1971 to provide temporary relief to troubled young adults in Guam. The program is entirely voluntary, and youth who stay in the shelter are provided with transportation to school, work, and/or other activities. The shelter also provides 24-hour intervention services, counseling, outreach, and education and prevention programs.

“Sanctuary’s Emergency Shelter has provided critical support to assist many families in Guam resolve conflicts in the home,” said Bordallo. “This Federal grant will help improve facilities at the shelter and services provided to troubled youth seeking help.
