Rollers Basketball Club-Department of Youth Services Rollers pounced on the Ray Basa Kagman Rollers, 76-49, in Wednesday’s Saipan Rotary Club Youth Basketball League U19 matchup held at the TSL Sports Complex in Gualo Rai.

DYS Rollers improved its win-loss card to 3-4, while Kagman dropped to just a pair of wins in six games.

The season continues tomorrow in Gualo Rai with the Sonics (5-1) taking on Hi-5 (3-3) at 5pm.

The DYS Rollers shared the ball well in the opening eight minutes and built an early 25-19 lead.

John Cenir paced DYS with six points in the first quarter, while Kagman’s Frank Mettao and Chico Kaipat provided the brunt of their team’s offense, tallying nine points apiece.

The defense tightened on both ends in the second quarter, but DYS maintained a 32-27 edge at halftime.

DYS’ Daryl Suarez converted an old-fashioned 3-point play late in the period to keep his team in the driver’s seat.

Then in the third quarter DYS’ John Darag delivered seven markers as his team surged ahead, 43-32, heading into the final canto.

Kagman fell out of sync in the period and allowed a lot of easy transition baskets to its rival. Most of Kagman’s turnovers were unforced.

Sensing weakness at the start of the final period, DYS reloaded and finished the game strong.

Kagman’s J.R. Pelisamen came off the bench for a string of nine points late in the final frame, but since midway through the third quarter DYS never had a doubt in this one.

John Cenir led DYS with 13 points, while Kagman’s Mettao managed 15 in the loss.
