Open letter to Delegate Sablan

Dear Congressman Sablan: In your most recent “e-Kilili newsletter” you announced the availability of a Registered Nurse position (Job Announcement Number: HO-11-10-128-DA-371047-RA, VACANCY ID: 371047) with the Department of Veterans Affairs, Veterans Health Administration, in Guam. Please be advised that no CNMI nursing school graduate is eligible for this position, nor any other Registered Nurse position with the U.S. Veterans Administration, the Department of the Army, or several other federal agencies, due to the fact that Registered Nursing positions in these agencies must meet the following requirement: “[Must be a] graduate of a school of professional nursing approved by the appropriate state agency, and accredited by one of the following accrediting bodies at the time the program was completed by the applicant; 1. The National League for Nursing Accrediting Commission (NLNAC) or 2. The Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE).” No CNMI nursing course is accredited by either the NLNAC, or the CCNE. (Note: The NMC nursing course is the only government institution nursing course I am aware of in America that is not accredited by one of these accrediting bodies).
It should be noted that the U.S. Veterans Administration is by far the largest employer of Registered Nurses in America, meaning that CNMI nursing graduates are being denied significant career opportunities as a result of their courses not being accredited by either the NLNAC or CCNE. Interestingly enough, foreign nursing school graduates are eligible for these federal Registered Nursing positions.
