Island Trybe heads home with Marianas shows
Hailing from Tacoma, Washington with roots in the Marianas and marinating the music industry with a new refreshing sound blending hip-hop, reggae, and R&B is Island Trybe.
Established in 1996 and pushing their music since, Island Trybe has been making a lot of noise in the U.S. mainland, headlining their own shows and performing with some of the industry’s big headliners. Being raised in the U.S. mainland and rooted in the islands automatically sets Island Trybe apart from the rest of the pack.
Island Trybe has brought recognition to the people of the Marianas in the U.S. mainland, having released four albums over the years and doing 49 performances in 2009 alone (47 throughout the state of Washington, one in Las Vegas, NV and one in Temecula, CA). The official music video of their hit single Blow Ya Mynd, which was released in February this year, has received over 28,000 views on the popular video-sharing website, YouTube. If that still doesn’t ring a bell, their latest hit single, Skankin’, which was officially released this August, has been airing on Power99 (99.5FM) and has been the most requested song on Power99.
After being away from the islands for almost a decade, the Island Trybe brothers, Y.D. (David Quitugua) and B.O.I. (Matthew Quitugua) is on a journey back home. Their journey starts in Guam as they are scheduled to perform at Power98’s Facebook Birthday Party “Friends with Benefits” on Friday, Sept. 30, 2011, at The Globe Ultra Lounge in Tumon, Guam.
Soon after, Island Trybe will grace the Commonwealth as Budweiser/MARPAC, Salbahe’ Brand, Betelnut Radio, and United Nesia present “United Nesia Fest: Coming Home Tour” and will headline Island Trybe as they perform live on Saipan. Also performing is Tacoma, Washington’s Jay Sway, along with an array of Saipan’s very own: Fatal Hitz, RoccJuan (who is an original member of Island Trybe), Latte Vibes, 6se7nh0, and Tom Basa Jr. Also in the mix is Tacoma, Washington’s DJ Boboy and Saipan’s DJ Big Ken Camacho.
