Lopez, Chiong wins Fil-Taga September Ace

Ernie Lopez and Alstree Chiong triumphed in the Fil-Taga Golfers Association September Ace of the Month tournament held last Sunday at Coral Ocean Point.

Lopez won the September Ace in Division B, while Chiong prevailed in Division A.

A net 69 gave Lopez the victory in Division B, while Chiong’s winning net score was a 70. The 28-handicapper Lopez carded a gross 97, while Chiong, a 13-handicapper fired a gross 83.

Lopez’s 69 was also the lowest net score among the 29 Fil-Taga members who joined the monthly tournament, while Chiong had the second best, tying Mando Guban. The 20-handicapper Guban recorded a gross 90.

Randy Tudela scored a net 71 to finish in solo third, while two were tied for fourth, as Rene Batallones and Dandito Breboneria shot identical net scores of 72.

Other Fil-Taga members who joined the September Ace tournament, with their net scores in parenthesis, were Ruben Avendano (74), Leo Ganacias (74), Raffy Piamonte (74), Jun Calma (75), Freddie Cataluna (75), Manny Alvarez (76), Mike Cruz (76), Dan Ganacias (77), Jacinto Ramones (77), Richard Atalig (78), Henry Cruz (78); Lito Mendoza (78), Hiroyuki Toyoshima (78), Gil Faller (79), Rick Kautz (79), Nick Sablan (81), George Sablan Sr. (82), John Matsumoto (83), Adony Matutino (83), Larry Pascual (83), Nestor Siruelo (85), Paul Bea (88), and Jess Yumul (100).

With Lopez and Chiong topping the September tournament, they are now eligible for the Fil-Taga Golfer of the Year Tournament, joining early qualifiers Matutino, Richard Meimban, Cataluna, Richard Atalig, Leo and Dan Ganacias, Matsumoto, William Retardo, Nazareno Ortiz, Kautz, James Mitchell, Jacinto Ramones, Sandy Palon, and Dennis Sebastian.
