U.S. Attorney for Guam and NMI districts Alicia A.G. Limtiaco noted an increase in the number of individuals tricked by different types of scams

Limtiaco said these scams range from soliciting donations for certain organizations and causes to grants and funding awards for professional services.

She said there has been an increase in the number of complaints they receive from business ventures that became victims of these scams.

Limtiaco noted that public awareness campaign as well as working with various financial institutions can help provide resources and the right agencies to be contacted by the community to prevent them from falling for these scams.

She said there should also be trainings for customers of financial institutions to caution them and ensure that their dealings are not scams. “We do continue that form of outreach,” added Limtiaco.
