MISO leagues start next month
Marianas Interscholastic Sports Organization will be kicking off the boys volleyball and girls basketball leagues next month.
Six teams make up this year’s boys volleyball competition, which is set to tip off on Oct. 3 at the Marianas High School Gymnasium.
Four games will be played in the opening day of the boys volleyball league with Grace Christian Academy taking on MHS 1 on the north end and MHS 2 meeting Saipan Southern High School on the south court at 4pm.
Then at 5pm, Saipan International School duels Kagman High School on the north side, while both MHS squads will battle it out on the south end.
Boys volleyball games will take place on Mondays and Wednesdays with two teams pulling double duty in rotation per round.
Regular season matches in the boys volleyball will run throughout October, while the playoff round will be held from Nov. 8 to 10.
The KHS Ayuyus are the three-time defending champions and will be looking to extend their reign in the boys league. Kagmang swept MHS 1 in the finals last season, 25-12, 25-18.
The four-team girls basketball league is set to start on Oct. 4 with the SIS Lady Geckos squaring off against the Kagman Lady Ayuyus.
The Lady Dolphins of MHS and the Lady Manta Rays of Southern are the other two competing teams in the varsity division, which will be played beginning at 5:30p after the junior varsity tiff at 4:30pm. Since Kagman, MHS, and Southern are the only squads participating in the junior varsity division, teams playing SIS in the varsity will have their games starting at 4:30pm.
Girls basketball matches will be played every Tuesday and Thursday and regular season games will run through Nov. 15. The Lady Dolphins are this season’s defending champions, spoiling Kagman’s bid for a fourth straight title after a 70-33 victory in the finals.
