[B]Next stop for dog tag registration is Kagman[/B]

The next dog tag registration will be set from Sept. 19 to Sept. 30 at the village of Kagman. Registration will start at 9am and end at 4pm. There will be no dog tag registration today, Sept. 16. (PR)

[B]Traditional crafts-making demo set to tomorrow[/B]

The Inetnon Amot yan Kutturan Natibu/Mwiischil Safey me Kkoor Aramasal Faluw is offering demonstrations on weaving, bead making, and traditional medicine and food at the Saipan Chamorro-Carolinian Village Cultural Centers Headquarters this Saturday, Sept. 17. The demonstrations will start at 9:30am to about 12noon. Children and adult Chamorros and Carolinians are invited to attend.

These activities are offered by the Association of Native Medicine and Culture, in partnership with the Indigenous Affairs Office and funded in part by the Administration for Native Americans. [B]Free business devt workshops set[/B]

The CNMI Small Business Development Center, in partnership with the Saipan Chamber of Commerce, is inviting the public to a series of free business development workshops. The Guam branch of the Small Business Administration will be doing presentations on HUBZone Programs and SBA Programs.

This Saturday, Sept. 17, 2011, Marianas Agupa will feature Saipan Tribune columnist John DelRosario Jr. between 10am to 10:30am. The show is from 9am to 11am on Magic 100.3 FM. The discussion will be on the newly enacted Retirement Derivative Act and Article 12. The Chamorro radio talk show program is hosted by Glenn H. Manglona. It will also feature reports by former mayor Joseph S. Inos, Thomas D. Mendiola, Juanita Mendiola, and former senator David M. Cing. [B]Group holds bagging activity tomorrow at Joeten Susupe[/B]

On Saturday, Sept. 17, members of the Commonwealth Substance Abuse Prevention and Recovery Coalition will hold a bagging activity at Joeten Shopping Center where health brochures and freebies will be handed in to customers from 8am to 12pm. These activities are in line with the monthlong celebration of National Alcohol and Drug Addiction Recovery Month in the CNMI. (PR)

Saipan International School is having its 11th SIS 5K Fun Run this Saturday beginning at Banzai Cliff. Registration starts at 6am. Race starts at 7am. Registration fee is $10. First 120 participants will receive a T-shirt and a raffle ticket. [B]Veterans outreach in September[/B]

Tina San Agustin, the Department of Veterans Affairs’ legal administrative specialist for Guam and the Commonwealth of the Northern Mariana Islands, will be on Saipan on Sept. 28-29, 2011, for a Veterans Outreach on veterans’ federal benefits. She will be also entertaining questions and assisting veterans and all concerned with their claims.

Agustin will be stationed at the Military and Veterans Affairs Office on Capitol Hill, building 1364, Saipan, from 8:30am to 4:30pm on both days.

[B]Humanities Council to present lecture series with Chamorrica scholars[/B]

The general public is invited to a presentation by Prof. Dr. Thomas Stolz and Barbara Dewein, who will share information related to the Chamorrica project. The lecture will take place on Saturday, Sept. 17, at 10am at the American Memorial Park Visitors Center Theatre. Admission is free and open to the public.

Chamorrica aims to translate, re-edit, and annotate various documents on the Chamorro language that were produced between 1668 and 1950. Members of the community will have an opportunity to ask questions about the project and to share with the visiting scholars concerns related to Chamorro language planning and revitalization.

From the Universitat Bremen in Germany, Stoltz and Dewein are also meeting with local researchers and scholars involved in efforts to study and preserve the Chamorro language.
