Trench Tech fighters rule ROP 11
Trench Tech Purebred dominated Rites of Passage 11: Onra, as its eight fighters notched separate wins on Friday night at the Royal Taga Ballroom of the Saipan World Resort.
Leading the list was Josh “Chaos” Duenas, who remained flawless with two wins after swiftly defeating Counter Shot’s Kevin Miranda with a triangle submission just 35 seconds into the first round. Miranda was caught dead after a botched takedown attempt right out of the gate and Duenas wasted no time finishing him off.
Other Trench Tech bets who triumphed in their respective bouts were Vince Masga, Walt “Silent Assault” Florencio, Frankie Ramangmao, Mark “The Dark” Nuique, and Frank Muna. Victories of Shane “Pikaboo” Alvarez (7-0) and Mylo “AlabaMMA” Lassiter (3-0) were earlier reported, so did “Badd” Brad Palacios’ loss last weekend.
Masga looked good in his debut, tapping out Quarter Master Head Hunters’ Irvin Saralu with a rear naked choke at 1:05 of the first round. Saralu came out swinging and got in some nice blows, but Masga’s ground game proved to be the difference in the fight. Masga landed two double leg takedowns and took Saralu’s back quickly after the second slam for the tap out.
Florencio locked in his own impressive rear naked choke on independent veteran Kev “The Rev” Esteves at 1:56 of the first round in his MMA debut. Both fighters felt each other out at first and Florencio managed a takedown, mounted Esteves, and took his back soon after for the swift victory.
Ramangmao defeated independent Leonard “JC” Cabrera, locking in a rear naked choke submission at 29 seconds into the second round of their 135-lb bout.
Nuique soundly defeated Zalaka’s Franklin Agulto at 2:40 into the second round of their exhibition-boxing bout via verbal submission. Nuique danced around his opponent and even let his rival have some free shots to keep things interesting.
Muna topped Pwang’s Pete Keju in their 160-lb K-1 match, as the latter could not answer the bell at the start of the second round. Keju actually looked good in Round 1, but must have been gassed after the three-minute hockey fight. Muna ate some shots early but finished strong.
