Chinese Culture Night this Thursday
The Chinese Association of Saipan would like to welcome the community to the first ever “Chinese Culture Night” this Thursday, Sept. 15, 2011 at the Paseo De Marianas from 6pm to 9pm.
There will be special performances from Beijing artists who will exhibit the exciting Chinese “Bi.n Liǎn”, literally “Face-Changing,” which is an ancient Chinese dramatic art that is part of the more general Sichuan opera. Performers wear brightly colored costumes and move to quick, dramatic music. They also wear vividly colored masks, which they change within a fraction of a second.
Also performing from Beijing will be the “Gōng Fu Ch.,” a thrilling show based on the tea preparation approach. The ceremony was originally popularized by teashops carrying tea of Chinese or Taiwan origins and by tea connoisseurs as a way to maximize the taste of a tea selection. Today, the “ceremony” has become a form of entertainment in various fairs, ceremonies, and tourist programs.
Showtime for the Beijing performers will be 7pm and 8pm. There will also be unique cultural performances and exhibitions by the local members of the Chinese community on Saipan as well as special booths which feature artwork, Chinese calligraphy, photo booths, cultural items, and games for the children. Booths open at 6pm, and entertainment kicks off with the traditional Lion Dance at 7pm.
Come and step into China for once night and experience the sights, sounds, and tastes of a culturally vibrant country!
The Chinese Association of Saipan would like to thank the Tan Siu Lin Foundation, the Department of Community and Cultural Affairs, the Division of Parks and Recreation, and the PDM Promoters for their assistance.
