Blowout wins in Rotary U15 caging
The Party Rockers, Proa, and the 670 Rollers bagged one-sided victories in the U15 games in the 20th Annual Saipan Rotary Club Youth Basketball League last Saturday at the TSL Sports Complex.
The Party Rockers routed Rollers Basketball Club’s U12 developmental Ol’Aces squad, 57-16; Proa romped Kunoichi, 73-29; and RBC’s 670 Rollers schooled little brother, Micronesian Brokers Inc. Rollers, 58-32.
The Aces kept pace with Party Rockers in the opening period, 6-8, as Christopher Tadec canned six points.
Then in the second period, Party Rockers put a lid on Tadec and stretched the lead to 12 at halftime, 20-8. Jeraldine Castillo and Kriz Gozon tallied six points apiece for Party Rockers in the first half.
Castillo added seven more in the third quarter, as Party Rockers shot ahead, 35-10. The all-female Party Rockers never looked back from thereon.
Gozon finished with a game-high 15 points, while Tadec provided all but one of the Aces’ baskets in the loss.
In the second matchup, Proa’s Karlo De Leon caught fire early with 13 points in the first quarter, as he and his crew jumped out to a 21-5 lead after the tip.
In the second quarter, De Leon’s teammates stepped up, as Proa rolled on to a 41-19 halftime advantage. Then in the third, Proa spread the wealth anew, as seven different players pressed a daunting 59-21 lead. Proa had no trouble closing the final canto for the 44-point win.
De Leon led the field with 15 points, while Kunoichi’s Jamie Mendoza turned in a team-high 10 on the short end.
In the final pairing, 670’s Prince Factor scored six points in the first period to help his team build an early 12-5 advantage.
MBI’s offense stalled anew in the second quarter and 670 trudged ahead to a 26-7 lead at the break. Factor returned in the third quarter and added nine points and his team continued the cruise.
Factor and Irvin Malonzo teamed up for 33 points, while MBI’s John Darag managed 16.
Meanwhile, this Saturday’s games will have 670 taking on the Aces at 11am and MBI battling the RBC Angels at 12:30pm. Then the ladies go head-to-head, as Kunoichi collides against Party Rockers at 2pm.
