Three-way tie for lead in mixed doubles BB
Two teams from the Saipan Badminton Club and one from the Golden Racquet are in a deadlock for the lead in the mixed doubles BB division of the 2011 Shirley’s Badminton Classic after three days of competition at the TSL Sports Complex.
In Pool A, the pair of Gary Bandoja and Oh In Sook of Saipan Badminton Club holds a 2-0 record to tie Golden Raquet’s Lito Mendoza and Marlyn Montano. Seven other teams are entered in Pool A.
In Pool B, which also has nine squads, Saipan Badminton Club’s Mario Diola and Julie Lee leads the group with their 2-0 slate. Oh Imbog and Toshiko Obata and Chris Hilario and Annette Ta have similar 1-0 cards, while Joseph Santos and Elma Labuson own a 2-1 record.
Games in the mixed doubles BB and five other divisions will continue this weekend.
In the centerpiece mixed doubles AA, Shirley’s Badminton Club’s Gerry Hibi and Annarose Omori and Taga’s Angie Ito and Andrew Galvez share the top spot with their 2-0 slates. Ferdie Arago and Lani Bartolome have an even 1-1 card, three pairs hold a 0-1 slate, Edwin Montoya and Cheng Saturno have a 1-2 record, and only Dick Guintu and Hannah Choi have yet to play in the group.
No changes in the leaderboard for the mixed doubles lower A were made with Robert Reyes and Malou Malasarte and Bandoja and Choi still ahead with identical 2-0 slates. Angie Ito and Rodwealth Espana and Guintu and Toshiko Obata hold similar 1-0 cards, while Merlie Tolentino and Galvez are also in the win column with an even 1-1 record.
In the mixed doubles CC, the pairs of Kim Boranah and Joel Ortega and Roma Barlao and Nani have the most wins so far with four apiece to lead Pool B and A, respectively. Brandon Talania and Wendy Fernandez and Luis Camacho and Elna Curate are also unbeaten in Pool A with two victories each. In Pool B, Panapa Petero and Lanie Santos notched their third win in as many games to take second place, while Kanata Omori and Cleofe Santos are also undefeated after two matches for the third spot.
