Capitol Poker robbery suspect falls
Police arrested over the weekend the suspect in the broad daylight robbery at Capitol Poker in Sadog Tasi, the Saipan Tribune learned.
Sources disclosed that police officers served the arrest warrant on George Castro on Sunday.
Castro is now being detained at the Department of Corrections for robbery, assault with a dangerous weapon, and other charges.
At least three officers from the Department of Public Safety confirmed Castro’s arrest.
The suspect is expected to be taken to the Superior Court today, Tuesday, for his initial court appearance.
The suspect was armed with a knife when he reportedly tied a 56-year-old male cashier and robbed Capitol Poker on Aug. 29, 2011, at 9am.
A surveillance camera captured the robbery. The poker establishment’s owner showed the footage to police investigators. KSPN aired the footage last week.
The suspect was playing poker when he called the cashier about a problem with the machine. As the cashier was checking the machine, the suspect suddenly pulled out a knife, grabbed him from behind, and pointed it at his neck or chest.
The robber then dragged the cashier to the cashier’s booth and tied the victim’s hands behind his back before taking the money from the counter.
Although he was tied up, the cashier managed to call his employer, who then called the police.
It was the third robbery at Capitol Poker since April 2004. The two previous incidents were also solved and resulted in convictions.
