Saipan post office eyes beefing up staff
The U.S. Postal Service office on Saipan is looking at beefing up its staff and is preparing for this by training officer-in-charge Jacqueline Camacho how to train new employees.
Camacho said the number of employees they currently have—four—is not enough.
“Yes [we have plans to hire more staff] but that’s like a work in progress,” said Camacho.
According to Camacho, USPS announces vacancies and staff opening online but does not advertise it in the newspaper.
“You just have to go to our website and find out when there’s an opening or not,” she said.
Camacho, who has been with the post office for 18 years, left for Honolulu on Aug. 21 to attend a two-week workshop that will prepare her to become a facilitator trainer and allow her to train new employees and give her more knowledge about her responsibilities as officer-in-charge.
Ross Honda, postmaster in Kealakekua, Hawaii, will temporarily take over Camacho’s place while she’s away.
Camacho, in an interview before she left, said this is the first time she will undergo the training since becoming the OIC for Saipan office and she looks forward to it.
“They want me to learn a lot in a very short time. I’m up for the challenge. I’m really excited to learn a lot more. I know a lot but it’s always good to learn something new,” she told Saipan Tribune.
Honda, for his part, said Camacho will be able to give new employees orientation and training. “So it’ll make it easier for this office to have more employees,” he added.
