Back-to-back for MDX/Armatech
MDX/Armatech notched its second win in as many games after beating SAFSWO/Ebisuya, 79-66, in the UFO Inter-Organization Masters Basketball Docomo Pacific Cup 2011 on Thursday night at the TSL Sports Complex.
MDX outgunned SAFSWO/Ebisuya, in the fourth quarter, 28-13, to improve to a 2-0 record and join defending champion Cabalen/Wings Travel in the lead. SAFSWO/Ebisuya fell to a 0-2 record.
Martin Moreno anchored MDX’s fourth-quarter assault, scoring 15 of his 27 points in that period.
SAFSWO/Ebisuya was still ahead at the end of the third quarter, 53-51, when Moreno took matters in his own hands to keep MDX’s record clean. The spitfire shooting guard drilled eight of MDX’s first 10 points and picked up where he left off, making the team’s last six markers.
Moreno outscored the entire SAFSWO/Ebisuya crew in the fourth period, as the losing squad had only Noel Mateo nailing more than one field goal in the payoff quarter.
Joe Buniag, who had 17 after the third, was scoreless in the fourth, while Noel Delos Santos, who tallied 12 after three periods, was limited to two points.
Bruce Berline and Toto Banatasa added 10 points apiece to help Moreno lift MDX to its second straight win.
MDX defeated SAFSWO/Ebisuya despite a sluggish game in the first quarter where the latter went ahead, 21-17. Delos Santos had eight points in opening period to give SAFSWO/Ebisuya the upper hand.
Moreno, who was cold in the first period, started the second canto with a triple and MDX went on to grab the lead at the break, 39-33. Favor changed anew in the third, as Buniag sizzled with 10 points for SAFSWO/Ebisuya in that quarter.
However, SAFSWO/Ebisuya could not keep its momentum, as it failed to neutralize Moreno in the final period.
