An auto mechanic was arrested Wednesday after he allegedly threatened his girlfriend with a knife, saying he would kill her if she leaves him.

William Degala, 39, was brought to the Superior Court yesterday for a Gerstein hearing, a proceeding when the arrest of a suspect is done without an arrest warrant.

Presiding Judge Robert Naraja found probable cause to continue Degala’s detention on charges of assault with a dangerous weapon, assault, and disturbing the peace. Degala’s bail was set at $6,000 cash. Preliminary hearing will be on Aug. 31.

Detective Catherine B. Pangelinan, who narrated to the court the circumstances that led to Degala’s arrest, said that two police officers had responded Wednesday morning to a store on Texas Road in Susupe after receiving a report about a disturbing the peace incident.

Pangelinan said the officers met the victim, who was inside a car. The victim told police that Degala pointed a knife at her and threatened to kill her after she told him that she doesn’t love him anymore and that she has already found someone else.

Degala also allegedly forced her to have sex with him.

The following day, Wednesday, the victim decided to call the police.

When interviewed by police officers, Degala allegedly admitted threatening his girlfriend with a knife.
